Family Support

Family Support

Parenting is hard and complex. It is also an opportunity to heal ancestral, cultural and familial wounds. As the primary homeschooling parent for the past 9 years, I have felt first hand the complexities of unlearning cultural, ancestral and familial conditioning so that I can support my child to become himself. Through this process, I am also finding myself.  It is messy and hard and beautiful... and I have gotten a lot of support along the way.

I provide a space for parents to ground and be deeply supported so they can uncover what is impacting their family most.  It is a gentle space to allow the many layers of parenting and family relationship to unfold with care and compassion. Sessions will seek deeper understanding of:
- what a child might be needing leading up to or during a challenging interaction
- what the parent is bringing to the relationship from their own personal history and how that is impacting their goals.
- what dynamics might be at play and what the needs are underneath them

These sessions can include one or more parent.  They can also include parents with their child(ren).

Family Agreements
Family Agreements can be an especially important aspect of this work after the parent has had the time and space to explore the areas mentioned above. Family Agreement work often begins by inviting deeper understanding of what each family member is experiencing, how they are feeling and what they might be needing. From there we might:
- discuss the purpose and impact of different agreements and reassess needs
- look at how agreements are kept and broken; the impact and actions that result
- explore the environment created by those agreements
- explore new approaches - with beautiful unforeseen solutions often arising naturally from a deeper understanding of each other's experience.

A session around Family Agreements can create a shift where the strategies and tools arise naturally to meet the situation. This work began with my study and practice of NonViolent Communication, seeking to understand the feelings and needs of my child (and especially myself) before taking action.  It is an ongoing process that deepens our experience of family with each renewed effort.

Scheduling and Payment:  Please contact me to schedule a session or ask questions (travissimo@gmail.com or 607.227.8427).  See the Contact page for more details.  Two hour sessions (105 min) are offered and can sometimes be a good fit when meeting with the whole family.
